Supporting regional museums

Renaissance North West supports museums and galleries in the region through development officer posts, small grants, FREE events, brokering partnerships, and sharing practice through research and publications.

Every one of the 170 museums in the North West has a stake in Renaissance.

What is Renaissance?
Renaissance is MLA Council’s  national £300 million programme to transform England's regional museums. For the first time ever, investment from central government is helping regional museums across the country to raise their standards and deliver real results in support of education, learning, community development and economic regeneration.

Strategic partnerships are fundamental to the delivery of Renaissance North West.  The six Hub venues together with the Renaissance North West team are developing new ways of working and collaborating to extend the benefit of Renaissance resources throughout the region.

Renaissance also supports museums in Greater Manchester, Preston, Cheshire, Merseyside and Cumbria to increase their capacity to develop education, audience development and marketing initiatives, and their impact in terms of regional economic strategies to deliver initiatives including:

Collections for the Future in the North West
The Collections for the Future Steering Group is responsible for developing issues arising from the Museums Association’s 2005 Collections for the Future report. The Group oversees the region’s Renaissance plans concerned with collections care, management, review, interpretation and Accreditation advice, with a view to widening access and user engagement.

The group delivers the Collections for the Future and more recently the Effective Collections agendas via three strands of investment: supporting posts, provision of small grants, and a programme of events & training that stimulate debate around collections issues, including the Curating for the Future conference.
